Strawberries and Grapes... in progress

Oil on 5"x7" board

picture of the fruit I was using
I spent some time today painting some grapes and strawberries. I'd wipe it off, rearrange the fruit and start over. I did that a few times, and this is what I finally wound up with. It's getting dark a little earlier now, I noticed my room getting dimmer a bit early, so I stopped painting. I don't know if I'll work on this again tomorrow, or leave it the way it is. I kind of like the loose, sketchy look that it has now. Maybe I'll just leave it that way, I don't know yet.

  1. Beautifully painted. Interesting composition. I admire you daily painters. I would like to do it. I was a resident artist at a gallery for a year and I am revisiting the paintings I made over a one year period. I am working on a number of unresolved paintings at the moment. Sometimes I kill them!

  2. Neetzy, thank you for your comments! I think you are a natural artist, your paintings are bright and full of movement and color. I hope you continue.

  3. Debbie, I think you are done, I too like the looseness in your strokes and would hate to see you loose those. The grapes are very luminous and have that beautiful transparent quality that only grapes have. Great job!

I tend to go back and destroy some nice strokes on my paintings and could kick myself! I always think just one more "improvement" and then BAM! I've lost the life in the thing.

  4. Thanks Marilyn, You're right, I think I will leave it alone. It's just fine the way it is, and besides, I don't have any ideas of what changes I'd like to make. That should be my clue right there to leave it alone! I think I'd be better off starting a new one. I am the same way, going back in and playing around with a painting, only to wish I hadn't!!
