This painting was done for Karin Jurick's
Different Strokes from Different Folks blog. The subject for this latest challenge is a
beach scene with many different figures in it. I usually don't pick this type of subject to paint, but this scene seemed familiar to me because I spent many summers at the beach in VA while growing up. So, I wanted to give it a try, and I'm glad I did. I enjoyed painting the figures, and got lots of practice mixing different colors for the water and sky.
This is great! Your little girl has such a nice natural looking tan - great color. Your painting shows that you really understand waves and how they form - something I struggled with. You handled them masterfully. Really nice interpretation of this challenge.
ReplyDeleteLove the blues in this, as well as the part of the photo you zeroed in on.
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Debbi! The water reflects the sky beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful! I love your rendition of the challenge!
ReplyDeleteWonderful Debbie! I love the ocean and the gulls. It really highlights the warm tones of the soon to be wakeboarding girl.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for leaving such great comments, it's encouraging to me to receive them!
ReplyDeleteTerrific, work, Debbie! I like the way the girl's feet are tucked in the sand. I can hear the gulls, and feel the spray! : ) Liz
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely feel to this challenge . I like the added gulls too. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteReal nice job on this Debbie, the girl with the board has such a natural feel.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful painting! I chose the same cropping, but I wish I could paint in your more painterly style...It turned out great!
