Cut Lime

Lime halves 3"x5" Oil on Canvas Panel

I worked on this little painting today. I had cut the lime in half, but didn't totally cut through to seperate them. I had started it a week or so ago, and since I no longer have the lime to go by, I refered to a photo I had taken. The painting is still wet in this picture, so there is some glare. I'll have to take a better one later on.

I did this painting a while ago, and set it aside thinking I would finish it another time. But, I was away for about a week, and when I came back and saw it again, I thought it looked just fine the way it was. It has a looseness about it that I like, and a freshness that I usually lose by working back into something because I had a more finished idea about how I wanted it to look in the end.

I worked a bit more on this painting today, so thought I'd post the finished picture.

Still life of Fruit w/ Cup

Since the fruit I have is still in good shape, I set up this little still life, along with a cup I bought at the dollar store. I started by drawing in the shapes of the fruit and cup with some thin dark paint...

I thought I would take pictures as I went along... I painted in the background, and then started on the lime...
Then I started on the strawberries.... and after that I went outside to take a break and get some fresh air, it was such a gorgous day today, and I saw this beauitiful butterfly visiting the butterfly bush in my garden!! I ran back in the house to get my camera, and ran back out hoping it hadn't flown away yet, and it was still there!! so I took some pictures.... I usually see orange and black monarch butterflies there, this was the first time I ever saw one like this!... and after a while I went back in the house and returned to my painting...
...I painted in the lemon... and finished up with the design on the cup....

I'll be leaving on a trip to VA at the end of the week, I'm going to visit my sister for a few days, so I won't be posting any new paintings or eBay auctions until I get back. Bye for now...

Strawberries and Grapes... in progress

I spent some time today painting some grapes and strawberries. I'd wipe it off, rearrange the fruit and start over. I did that a few times, and this is what I finally wound up with. It's getting dark a little earlier now, I noticed my room getting dimmer a bit early, so I stopped painting. I don't know if I'll work on this again tomorrow, or leave it the way it is. I kind of like the loose, sketchy look that it has now. Maybe I'll just leave it that way, I don't know yet.

Limes with Glass, 4x6 small canvas board

Well, I thought I would try to paint a glass of water, since I haven't tried it, and I would like to know how to go about it. It always seems to look so easy in other paintings, even though I know it can't possibly be easy. I had a hard time trying to edit out all the little details of light and reflections that I could see in the glass, I kept putting in too much. I wiped paint off and put it back on quite a few times, and it reminded me of an old comic strip I had cut out of the paper quite a few years ago. I thought I would post my painting along with the comic, since it did take me quite a few tries, and more paint, to end up with something I thought was acceptable. Maybe someday I will get to be a great painter like so many of those that I admire. It will just take time, and alot of paint, and alot of determination, and desire. I don't plan on doing anything else with my time, especially since this is the only thing I know how to do. :)

One last try, and, Hurray!! I'm happy with this picture. Taken outdoors, hazy sun, with the sun to the back of the painting... I'll have to remember that.

A new picture... It's better, but the background color is a bit lighter in real life. I don't know why I've had so much trouble getting an accurate picture of this painting.

These two pictures were taken outside, one in the shade, and one in the sun. I'll have to experiment a bit more to get a better picture.

I set up this bowl of cherries and started painting a picture of it last night. There are some golden cherries, and some dark red ones in the bowl. It's been hard not to eat any of them, I hope I can finish this painting today, while I have the time! Thanks for looking :)
