Little Crab Apple

This little crab apple is from a tree in my backyard. I thought it would be fun to paint just one. I switched from painting on my canvas panels to an ampersand gessobord. I always like the smoothness of these boards, and it seems as if I have better control of the paint on them. I painted this picture late, so I couldn't take a very good picture of it. Plus, just as I was finished with it, I picked it up from the easel, and it dropped out of my hands!!!!! and it landed (of course) face down on the floor. Geeez! It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I think it might have a few little spots I have to fix up.

  1. Such a sweet little apple. What size is this board? 6x6? I think my favorite part is your stem and leaf. You have such a graceful touch with stems. They are such perfectly designed curves, always curving in just the right direction, the right width and right tones. You know how some men are "leg" men? I guess I'm a "stem" artist.

  2. Thank you so much Marilyn for your nice comments! This board is a 5x5 which I just measured to be sure, I had thought it was 6x6! I always notice the stems on fruit in other's paintings too. This one was so cute, with the leaf sticking out, just like the apple was flying it's own little flag.
