Mineola tangerine on 5x7 gessobord

Well, here's what I worked on today. A mineola tangerine. I was really excited as I started this painting, because I remembered to take the time to think about what I was doing, and pre mixed a few values on my palette, and I was happy with how it was coming out...

Here is the same painting a little while later, I liked it, although the highlight didn't look that good to me ( in the earlier picture the highlight is just the plain white of the board underneath, and it looks so nice and bright) I wanted to try to get the highlight looking better, so, after I took this picture, I wiped off just that little area, and planned on painting it in again, when... MY GLASS PALETTE BROKE! I couldn't believe it, I had just picked it up to move it to my desk, and accidentally knocked it into the edge of the desk, and it shattered into little bits!!! So, needless to say, I won't be oil painting again until I get another palette.

Silver Spoon

This is a painting of a silver spoon, on 5x7 gessobord. It was alot harder than I thought to paint this little spoon. Wow, what a challenge! I'll have to try it again sometime.

Rainy Day

This is my last version...
... and a picture of it previous..( I didn't like the crooked stem) This picture also shows the colors a little better than the pic. above.

Today was a very good day for painting. It started out sunny and warm, but by early afternoon a couple of strong thunderstorms came through, and it rained and rained!! and got much cooler. I sat in my room and fussed with this painting for quite a long time, uninterrupted. It was a nice day for me, and I think I learned a few things.

Forsythia Oil Painting.. Still in progress...

My 4th try...
My 3rd try...

So... Today, I scraped the paint off again, and my 3rd try was pretty poor, so I wiped it off, and did another. My 4th try didn't come out too bad. I like the vase, but not the flowers so much, so.. we'll see, maybe I can save the vase, and do the flowers over.

...in progress....

I wiped off the previous painting, and here is my 2nd try... I like the vase, but not the flowers... I'll have to try again tomorrow....

Forsythia Oil Painting

I started painting this little picture of a sprig of forsythia today, on a 5x7 peice of gessobord. I haven't been using my oil paints lately, so I didn't feel like this painting went too well. I think I'll either wipe it away, or maybe continue to work on it somemore...

Here is a picture I took of the flowers I am painting. Maybe my painting would look better if I had included the whole vase.... maybe I'll try again tomorrow.

News

Well, it took some time, but I have finally opened a "shop" on "Etsy," the online marketplace where you can find all kinds of handmade items for sale by the people who created them. I'm just getting started, and anything computer related takes me a while to do, but I'm excited and looking forward to making and adding more items to my "etsy shop." I will be offering hand painted items, and oil paintings like the ones I've shown here on my blog. If you are interested in looking, my online shop is at: http://www.DebbiesArtStudio.etsy.com

Hyacinth and Forsythia

I made myself sit down and paint this today, even though I wanted to get at some much needed Spring cleaning. But, the cleaning will wait for me, the flowers that I picked today may not. This is a watercolor done on an (approx.) 8x10 peice of w/c paper.

Spring

Sorry, I haven't posted any new artwork in a few days. The weather here has finally turned springlike , and I've been spending alot of time outside trying to get the yard cleaned up. I'm eager to get back to painting now!

Orchid

Still practicing. I like this painting, although the background looked better when it was a light yellow-before I added the raw umber over it to darken. It is a painting of an orchid. I'm not sure what the proper name of this flower is, I had taken a picture of it at a flower show a few years ago. It is done on a 5x7 peice of coldpress watercolor paper. ( I took this picture while outside and accidentally cast a shadow on the lower left corner -oops)

more tulips...

I'm still playing with my watercolors, adding flowers and experimenting. I wish I knew the name of the two-toned dark purple and yellow tulips with the pointy petals, they were in a picture I took a few years ago at a garden show. I'd love to have some of those in my garden!

In progress...

I've been adding to this painting a little bit at a time, and thought I'd post a picture of my progress. I like how the tulips are coming out the best.

daffodils and tulips... in progress

It's a beautiful spring day today, almost 60 degrees and sunny! My neighbors are out in thier yards cleaning up... I did alot of that yesterday, so today I feel like doing something different- like painting. I'm inspired to do some pretty spring daffodils and tulips, even though they are far from blooming here yet. I have pictures of them that I can work from. I'm painting on hot press watercolor paper for a change. I think I like to paint on a smoother surface, rather than the cold press which has more texture.
