"Sunny Spring Day on the Pier" (finished)

Oil on 6"x8" Canvas panel
I had scraped the excess paint off this painting, and let it dry. When I began painting again today, it was much more enjoyable. The surface wasn't completely dry, but tacky, and the new paint stuck to it much better. I felt like I had more control. I liked the sketchy look the painting had after I'd scraped it down, and left a bit of that texture here and there.

  2. Debbie, I love both versions. I like the impressionist light tones and colors of the first version, and also like the pink added to the feet and detailing on the second.

  3. Wow! this is wonderful! All the soft edges are really great. It looks like something out of my two large Impressionist's books and I love it! I must admit that I prefer the heavier legs on the first piece. They just seemed to suit her but you were being kind.....The gestures are so natural and endearing and the painting has a wonderful timeless quality.

I also think the "pink" feet are a touch of genius!

  4. Debbie, you punched it up without going overboard. I really like what you've done with the foreground, the feet and highlights. Beautiful painting.

  5. Thank you everyone for all of the great comments you've sent my way. It's really wonderful to receive feedback on a painting. All of your thoughts and opinions help me to see more in a painting than I thought was there.

  6. It's beautiful, Debbie! Love this! I actually like the other version also--the thick paint in portions of it were wonderful. But I sure understand the compulsion to scrape and re-do! This is fantastic.
