McIntosh Apple
Oil on 5"x7" hardboard panel
I'm always attracted to the striking green and red pattern of colors on these apples. I think it's funny sometimes, the extra time I take to pick out fruit at the store because I'm more interested in the colors, shape, and stem than it's ripeness.
I can imagine other artists doing this, maybe taking twice as long to pick out a bouquet of flowers, or a piece of cheescake, fruit, or a certain vase because they are wondering how the light will fall on it, what color would they mix for the shadow area, what color could the background be??? .. and on and on...

This looks luscious, Debbie. The textures are really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou nailed this. Love the panting of the cup and oranges too.
ReplyDeleteI have apple envy. I'v tried painting these two-colored apples, but I don't do it nearly so well. The shadows, and reflected light are perfect. Everything about this painting is excellent!
ReplyDeleteHa- me too; normally if I'm just thinking of eating I go for the largest, most ripe fruit. But lately I look for varied shape and color, even when it's puny and hard. Then my husband will ask 'why'd you pick that one?'
ReplyDeleteReally nice apple!
Just perfect, Debbie. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great comments! You're the best!
ReplyDeletegorgeous! And, may I say - you are the master of the abstract/suggestive background?! (the reds on this apple are really really awesome too.)
ReplyDeleteWow says it all - just perfect!
ReplyDeleteAbout the shopping, don't forget when you tell the cashier, "be careful, don't bruise it or let the leaf fall off" !!! :)
This one really grabbed me as I scrolled down... So incredibly rendered ! I can see why so many of yours have SOLD on them... ha
