Pears work in progress....

I had drawn some pears on a blue sheet of paper and imagined if I did a painting of them with a blue background it would look nice... so  set this up and began a little 5x7 inch painting...
...this is the painting I wound up with, and I felt like it was ok, but didn't have anything special about it.  I felt like, if I could wipe this painting off even after having worked on it for a few hours, would I care?  I didn't, and I wiped it off... and the next day started over with something a little different....

I folded up some origami butterflies and added one to the set up... and started painting, I liked this much better.... (I temporarily put those black strips of paper around the painting to help "frame" it in a way.. it sort of helped me visualize the composition in the space better)

I'll post the finished painting tomorrow.

  1. Deb, I've neglected to say hello and tell you how much I enjoy seeing your lovely paintings. Seeing your set-ups reinforces what a skillful drafts-person you are. Your color-mixing prowess is great.

I have to say, this piece in it's 'half-way' point is awesome!!! I love it as-is. It retains the sense of spontaneity of you playfully toying around with the origami, and a freshness through your ability to not treat the painting as too precious to rework. There is something about the 'sketchiness' that is exciting to me.

Since I haven't painted in ages, glimpses into your studio are good for my spirit. Thanks for the good work!
