I love the combination of orange and red in this one. It smelled great too while I painted.

It always surprises me how different a color is in reality, compared to what color I think it is. The color orange out of the tube is nothing like the color of this orange fruit. It's hard to give in, and just make a color that matches the fruit and use it in the painting, no matter how it looks on the palette. These oranges now look to me, more real than any others I've done.

The more I looked at this orange, the more colors I saw. It wasn't a very orange orange, but it was such a pretty color I really wanted to try to paint it just the way I saw it. The picture has a bit of glare shining on the upper left where the value is darker than it appears here, but for the most part it is an accurate image.

I've been working on this painting, and now I'm much happier with it.

Still working on this one.... I took out the line where the table surface would meet the back wall...I just couldn't figure out how to shade/highlight in that area. I like it better with just a gradual change of value. I reworked the orange over and over, and I'm still not 100% happy with it, the shading and red reflection from the book seems to have me puzzled as to how to paint it... I'll leave it alone for a while, and look at it again in a day or 2 (if I can force myself to wait that long!) then maybe I'll be able to see better what to do with it.

Grapes and orange slices, 5x7 oil

I thought I would add some orange slices to the grapes painting. The orange seemed to go well with the violet color of the grapes. I think it looks much better now. This painting is sold.

Orange slices and strawberry

I've set the painted box aside for now... and decided to work on something different. This is an oil painting done on a 5x7 gessobord. I really like how this one came out!
