I'm new to your blog, but of the paintings I've seen so far, this is my favorite of the bunch (hehe!) To me it is very strong compositionally with the opposing diagonals of the shadow and banana. Also you've made good use of the whole of the picture plane, creating interesting shapes in both the positive and negative space.
Maybe it's just me, but there is also something about it that reminds me of "film noir". Okay I know it's just a banana, but with the way it's leaning on the wall like that it takes on a little bit of a human quality. Then again, maybe I watch too many old movies ;-)
Jennifer, Welcome, and thank you for such thoughtful comments! It's fun to hear what others think about when they see a certain painting. I thought that banana had a sort of human quality about it too, once I had finished it, it looked like it was relaxing, taking a little nap in the shade. :)
Had to stop...love your colours in 'Banana in Shadow' and your 'Wine Glass of Grapes'... Amazing...
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Sylvia, for stopping to leave such a nice comment! I appreciate it!!
